Professional Experience:

The Creator of the Financialoscopy

Beyond the decades of skills as a financial advisor, Mark Bertrang is a professional communicator. He listens...and then he speaks. Understanding a client takes more than just a spreadsheet of numbers. Gauging a person's values, their passions and fears is often as important, if not more important, than the allocation of their investment portfolio or an asset and liability statement. It isn't about market-timing. Seldom will you find yourself at the right place, at the right time. It isn't about having the fastest computer, because a new faster computer will be for sale tomorrow. It isn't about finding a hot stock no one else has heard about - Mark Says, they've already heard about it. It isn't about a stack of charts and graphs. Those only show what you should have done in the past.

Personal Information:

Mark Bertrang believes that we all have gifts that are meant to be shared. Unfortunately, many people leave their gifts unopened and unused. You may run into Mark during the Christmas season ringing a Salvation Army kettle bell while singing holiday songs outside a local grocery store; or you may have found Mark giving of his time on Wednesday nights during the school year, serving as an adult leader to his church's youth group. Mark has traveled around the country helping to lead youth in scraping and painting houses or helping with programs serving disadvantaged communities.

Mark has also completed a year-long course to serve through his church as a Stephen Minister, trained to provide distinctive one-to-one Christian care to people going through tough times. Mark also serves as his church's lay leader with a position on its church council, Staff-parish relations, stewardship, finance, and lay leadership committees.

A special concern of Mark's is the misunderstanding of Mental Illness and how it silently affects the lives of families. He has participated in the National Association of Mental Illness 'family-to-family' education program and has incorporated its message into his practice when dealing with families who have children with special needs.

Mark and his wife Betty have been married for thirty-five years and have lived in the same home since 1991. They have two grown children. In his free time, Mark enjoys escaping to northern Wisconsin and spending time relaxing along the Flambeau River.

Professional Experience:

The first person you will probably meet at Bertrang Financial will be our office manager and Mark’s personal assistant – Cathy Novy. Her number one job is moving along the flow of information. Since we work with many clients at once, Cathy is responsible for keeping track of where each client is, in the Financialoscopy® process.

Collecting, organizing and documenting information is the first step in understanding our clients. Cathy helps to simplify the chaos we may encounter when first beginning to work with a new client.Cathy Novy came to us from a nationally known third-party administrator of retirement, insurance and consulting services. She acted as a Senior Conversion specialist managing the documentation for multiple trust companies and custodians.

Cathy rose from a Client Services Manager position where clients depended on her for managing the many moving parts of their 401(k) and 403(b) plans including balancing, preparation of quarterly reports, compliance, annual notices, audit packages, payroll submissions, distributions and rollover processing and vesting schedules.

Cathy graduated cum laude with a B.S. Organizational Management degree from Viterbo University. Before her work in retirement planning management, Cathy worked as an administrative assistant with an emphasis in accounting. She also rose through the banking industry from service representative, to supervisor, to loan officer.

Personal Information:

In her free time, Cathy volunteers through her church as a high school youth group leader and in its music ministry. As a certified group fitness instructor, Cathy’s energy is expressed by teaching Zumba and Tabata classes. She also enjoys running.

Cathy lives in Onalaska with her husband Danny and “the kids”, a beagle and beagle-mix named Ted & Tony.
