Professional Experience:

Marcus M. Bauman, Esq. began his Financial Services career shortly after receiving his Juris Doctor from the Marshall-Wythe School of Law at the College of William & Mary and passing the Bar. Soon he accepted a position as an associate at a local Estate Planning firm. The job was offered to him on the unusual condition that in addition to serving as an attorney, he would train to become a financial advisor to serve the needs of the firm’s trust and estate administration and small business clients. Often these families needed more than mere legal advice; they needed ongoing consultation and long-term asset management, sometimes across generations.

The combined practice made sense; he was already acting in a fiduciary capacity and well familiar with his clients’ circumstances. Marcus grew into the advisor’s role and made it the focus of his practice. The firm began partnering with other professionals to offer his services to their clients.

Marcus eventually found himself serving as the Financial Advisor for a prominent local CPA firm, advising individuals and businesses alike, coordinating their Estate, Business, Financial, and Tax Planning considerations.

This multidisciplinary and long-term approach to the planning process is why joining Interactive Advisory Network, LLC (IAN) was a such a natural fit. At IAN, this level of client engagement is elemental to the practice; it’s what the firm was designed to achieve from the outset. Best of all, at IAN, Marcus now has a team working alongside him.

Personal Information:

Marcus was born and raised in Washington, D.C., where he spent much more time exploring the Smithsonian Institution than any child has a right to. After graduating from the Edmund Burke School, he went on to college at Northwestern University. There he indulged his passions for history and Western Civilization, earning his Bachelor’s Degree in Classics (Ancient Greek, Latin, and Ancient History). Armed with a degree in an obscure humanity, it should come as no surprise that he ended up in law school.

The move to Hampton Roads to attend the Marshall-Wythe School of Law would prove fateful, as it not only launched his career as an estate planner and financial advisor, but also his family. His daughter, Sophia, now 15, was born here and raised here, and Marcus strongly suspects he’s found a permanent home here in this wonderful and historic corner of the Commonwealth.

When he isn’t too busy wondering where all the time went, Marcus is a lifelong student of history, economics, and politics. He’s also a lifelong fan of science fiction, comic books, and (really) heavy metal. He once even had his own radio show, but that is a story for another time...
